We’re looking for Event Volunteers!

26 November 2024

Ipswich Museums run a programme of community, learning and social events and are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help give visitors the best possible experience. During the redevelopment, pop-up exhibitions and activities are running around Ipswich to ensure people can engage with the Museum during the closure. For example, the ‘Museum in a Box’ project takes objects into community locations to engage people with heritage stories.

As an Event Volunteer, you will help staff welcome and support our visitors during community, learning and social events. This is a flexible volunteer role, with no requirement to commit to regular times; we will regularly share details of upcoming events so you can volunteer on the dates that work best for you.

We have a range of events taking place in Ipswich at various times, from craft activities and storytelling, to discovery days and education visits. We are therefore looking for volunteers who are comfortable talking to members of the public and adaptable as our events can be quite busy.

Duties could include:

  • Marshalling and directing visitors
  • Supporting visitors with crafts and restocking materials
  • Supervising our object handling trolley
  • Helping bring story time to life
  • Answering questions
  • Gathering feedback

Volunteering with us offers a great opportunity to anyone with a keen interest in museums and customer service. Volunteering is a great way to gain valuable experience for the future, or to meet new people and have fun! Event Volunteers will have the opportunity to learn about different subjects and gain real experience in a friendly environment. By greeting children and adults as they join our activities and offering support when needed, you will be enhancing the visitor experience. Please visit our website to find out more and sign up to receive more information on volunteering opportunities with Ipswich Museums.
