Your Museum needs you!

Do you have photos, objects or belongings from your life in Ipswich? 

We’re working on some exciting displays for the new-look Ipswich Museum, and we need your help to tell Ipswich’s story since 1960.  

We want to make your Museum more representative of its vibrant community. Everyone’s stories are welcome, and objects and stories related to our multicultural population, LGBTQ+ histories and people with disabilities are warmly encouraged.    

We’re looking for items linked to these themes: 

Entertaining Ipswich – Photos of you out enjoying local gigs, theatre, cinema, Music Day, nightclubs, cinema, speedway or pub quizzes. Tickets, posters, outfits or shoes you wore on a night out. 1980s/90s especially welcome. 

Ipswich at work – Photos, uniforms and objects linked to working at Cranes, Ransomes, the hospital, BT and other Ipswich companies.  

Babies - congratulations cards from when your baby was born, a sling you carried your baby in, clean cloth nappies. 

Weddings - outfits, accessories and objects from your own wedding, especially since the 2013 Marriage Act. 

Women’s rights in recentyears - banners, posters and objects relating to Women’s rights, e.g. Reclaim the Night, Women in STEM, equal pay, maternity rights, gender based violence. 

Religious festivals and celebrations – objects from major religious festivals celebrated in Ipswich, e.g. Diwali, Eid, Lunar New Year, etc, e.g. clothes worn (but not cleaned) to the Ipswich Holi festival.

Bring your objects and photographs along to:

Saturday 18 or Sunday 19 May 

between 10am and 4pm 

The Museum team will chat with you to work out how they might help us tell Ipswich’s story, and might then take photos of your objects and note down your contact details to arrange a more in-depth conversation.
